Ventura County Senior Living was founded by Ken and Marianne Knight in 2001. As lifelong residents of Ventura County, their passion to assist families and their dedication to the local community has made this free Referral and Placement service a vital part of the county’s senior healthcare continuum.
Ventura County Senior Living and the Knights have been highlighted in local publications since the beginning. Families have shared their positive experiences in the Acorn newspaper. More recently, families have shared their special, private experiences with google reviews and social media.
Marianne Knight is a graduate of California State University Northridge with her B.S. In Health Administration. As the daughter of a local elementary school teacher and an insurance adjuster, and the granddaughter of a Ventura County Public Health Nurse, Marianne’s dedication is deeply rooted in Ventura County. Marianne’s journey in senior healthcare started when she was only 20 years old, working as a caregiver and medication tech in a local Assisted living community. She grew to love the industry, graduated college, and immediately began her career as an Administrator and Executive Director of local Assisted living and Memory Care programs. In 2001 she recognized that families needed advocacy and a supportive local resource to help them find the right care for aging parents. The rest is history. Ventura County Senior Living is now in its 25th year and has assisted tens of thousands of families in their search for senior care.
Ken knight is a lifelong resident of Ventura County and grew up in Camarillo. The son of a local elementary school teacher and a high school teacher and football coach, his memories throughout the county span decades of participation and achievement from youth sports to high school and college athletics. As a kid, you could also find Ken surfing the local beaches of Ventura County.
Ken’s college education focused on Finance and he earned his B.S. in finance from Chico State. The early days of his career focused on assisting educators with tax and financial planning. The thoughtful approach he developed when helping families plan for their future, including retirement and healthcare, carried over as families sought advice and support when deciding next steps for an aging loved one.
In 1997 Ken’s father was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. As the Knight family navigated this difficult journey, the personal experience and loss has provided an empathetic approach from Ken as he assists families through this process. Close to seventy five percent of the families he assists are supporting a family member with a diagnosis of Dementia or other memory issue.
Today Ventura County Senior Living continues to support local organizations, such as Senior Concerns and the Alzheimer’s Association. The Knights are twenty-year members of the Ventura County Homecare Association where Marianne has served as an Executive Board Member since 2015, and is the current President of the organization. Marianne is a two-time Distinguished Speaker at the Senior Congress, part of the Conejo Las Virgines Future Foundation. She has also provided valuable presentations and inservices at local area hospitals, Senior Concerns, Oxnard Family Circle, Thousand Oaks Council on Aging, and Conejo Valley Village.
Caring for the community and the families within it has become a relentless journey these past 25 years. “As we assist our neighbors and community members through such a challenging and important time in their lives, we are reminded daily how grateful we are to a part of it.”
